President Donald Trump has now signed over 200 executive orders. The “power of the pen” has often been weaponized against the American people. However, the Trump administration has used executive actions to roll back many of the regulations that the Biden administration put in place, and they have made the message clear that they are not finished yet.
One of President Trump’s first promises was to “unleash prosperity through deregulation” by repealing ten regulations for every one proposed by his administration. Shortly after, President Trump issued an executive order to “restore fidelity to the Constitution” by directing all heads of agencies to review and remove all unlawful regulations. In six months, agencies rolled back 109 regulations and removed many guidance materials. Not only did the President keep his promise, but agencies are projected to replace regulations 30 to 1 by the end of this year.
To continue the momentum, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) compiled hundreds of regulations that need to be eliminated or reformed from over 60 agencies and departments and highlighted these under what they call the Unified Agenda. Several of these initiatives are quite notable.
One law that has been weakened over the years is the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which is intended to protect children from the federal government collecting their data. Within the Unified Agenda, the Department of Education will amend the regulation to strengthen parents’ ability to control personal information collected on their children.
There are changes being made at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as well. The Biden administration had made changes that fostered the indoctrination of children and led to the over-regulation of our food supply system. Now, HHS has a slew of regulations it plans to remove or amend. Some rescind programs that coerce children into LGBTQ indoctrination. Others give farmers more freedom to grow and sell their products as they wish.
The Department of Energy has announced that they are reviewing restrictions on a litany of household appliances used by Americans daily. Removing restrictions on light bulbs, ceiling fans, stoves, washing machines, air conditioners, and more allows for consumer choice.
Once these regulations are either removed or amended, the federal government is projected to save $148 billion in fiscal year 2025 alone. Additionally, American businesses will save an estimated $5 trillion over the next year. These savings will be a pathway out of inflation and reduce the federal deficit.
Eagle Forum leaders have been in Washington, D.C. this week, lobbying Members of Congress on these and other initiatives that benefit the American people, foster free market capitalism, and respect state sovereignty. We applaud the Trump administration for making deregulation a priority and for our grassroots for holding their elected officials accountable.
