In recent weeks, President Donald Trump and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., have announced new initiatives that could change the health of Americans. The new and improved HHS is now finding ways to get to the root causes of chronic disease, make our food supply safer, and cut programs that allow Americans to be treated as social experiments.
On February 13th, President Trump created the Make America Healthy Again Commission to find ways to end childhood chronic diseases. His executive order cites conditions such as autoimmune diseases, obesity, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), cancer, and autism. These diseases have sharply increased over recent years, leading experts to wonder if there are certain factors that have led to the growth in these conditions. The commission will look at a variety of potential causes, such as diet, environment, government policies, electromagnetic radiation, and even corporate influence. The final report on these studies was released last week.
The 69-page “Making Our Children Healthy Again” report details several factors that contribute to poor health. The report finds that ultra-processed foods, chemicals in our environment such as microplastics, the decline of physical activity due to pervasive technology use, and overmedicalization are catalysts for mental and physical decline. Secretary Kennedy lists several solutions that include elevating the voices of farmers in food safety, encouraging medical professionals to prevent and reverse diseases rather than manage them, overhauling the childhood vaccine schedule, and more. The report also targets the problems with chemical and surgical mutilation of children, saying that they have found no long-term evidence for their safety or effectiveness.
This sentiment is a reversal of Biden’s HHS, which seemed more concerned about trans-ing kids than actually caring for their health. In nearly every policy issued by the Biden Administration, the definition of sex was expanded to include gender ideology. Anyone accepting federal dollars from the agency was expected to accept and affirm an individual’s preferred pronouns or gender choice. The Left targeted Title IX, which provides funding for public schools to allow equal access to educational opportunities for both sexes, including male and female sports. They allowed biological males to play in women’s sports as well as use their locker rooms. We watched girl after girl lose championships and scholarships because of males dominating in their sports. In some cases, girls were severely harmed. Now, Trump’s HHS recognizes only two sexes, male and female, withdrew all gender ideology guidance, and kicked men out of women’s sports.
One of RFK, Jr.’s top priorities has been to eliminate chemicals in food. He has begun phasing out certain petroleum-based food dyes, which have already been banned in other countries due to their poisonous effects on children. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has created a searchable database to find contaminants like these in everyday foods. Additionally, HHS has created the Operation Stork Speed initiative to ensure that all baby formula is safe and meets nutritional guidelines.
On a fiscal level, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) found more than $67 billion in savings in this area. Among those was $14.1 billion in COVID-related grants. Another $350 million was saved by ending over 500 DEI research projects. In the Medicaid program, they shifted focus to the services truly needed rather than the non-medical expenditures they have been covering, such as housekeeping, high-speed internet, and student loan repayment. This action alone will save hundreds of millions of dollars.
HHS’s most recent action was released on Tuesday. In a video with National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, Secretary Kennedy announced that the COVID-19 vaccine had been pulled from the vaccine schedule for healthy children and pregnant women. Bhattacharya praised the action, saying, “It’s common sense and good science.” Makary added to that by saying, “There is no evidence that healthy kids need it today, and most countries have stopped recommending it for children.” This, along with their many other achievements, is a great step toward eradicating the Biden-era federalization of America’s healthcare.
HHS is working overtime to help make America healthy again. All this good policy and fiscal responsibility needs to be codified by Congress, of course.
