Family Month • Eagle Forum

The month of June used to signal the end of the school year, trips to the beach, and lazy days by the pool. In 1999, Bill Clinton declared June to be “Gay and Lesbian Pride Month,” and since then, we have seen much of the culture fall in line with the Left’s global celebration of sexual identity. Stores and restaurants pandered to the indoctrination by flying pride flags, putting rainbow filters over their social media pictures, and selling LGBT-focused merchandise. In recent years, it really got out of hand when big box stores like Target began selling items like chest binders and “gender-affirming bathing suits” geared towards adults and children. Parents were appalled, and many customers chose to shop elsewhere.  While many stores are scaling back their displays, the LGBTQ fervor is not over. This year, Sesame Street made a social media post wishing everyone a “Happy Pride Month.” The American people, especially parents, have had enough.

Congress and the Trump administration are taking steps to return America back to sanity. Eagle Forum has supported various resolutions and proclamations that celebrate families, faith, and freedom and bring morality back to the month of June. Here are several that have been introduced so far.

Fidelity Month

Religion, patriotism, marriage, parenthood, and community involvement are all signs of a thriving nation, yet America is veering away from the values that make it strong.  It fact, statistics show that commitment to these ideals is dangerously low. Dr. Robert George, a McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University, has put out a call to all Americans to celebrate June as a “season of recommitment to God, our spouses and families, our community, and country.” He has founded the Fidelity Month movement, which includes an extensive network of churches, organizations, elected officials, academics, and families that advocate for these tenets in a variety of ways.

Jacob Ogan, a seminary student, wrote in National Review:

Fidelity Month aspires to embody this rejection of the status quo. Yet it is not a reactionary movement. It is a vision of renewal. It offers a positive vision of human flourishing rooted in the timeless virtues of fidelity to God, family, and country.

Life Month

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. Since then, states have been free to regulate abortions because abortion is no longer (falsely) considered a “right” under the Constitution. To commemorate that day, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ) have introduced resolutions to make the month of June “Life Month.”

Rep. Smith made a compelling statement, saying:

For decades, abortion advocates have gone to extraordinary lengths to ignore, trivialize, and cover up the battered baby victim, fostering a culture of denial, disrespect, and bias against the unborn. This resolution designating June as Life Month highlights our moral imperative to protect innocent children’s lives from extermination. It calls our nation to reject willful blindness to the realities of abortion — brutally dismembering helpless babies with sharp, knife-like curettes or poisoning babies with pills that literally starve them to death and often result in their bodies being flushed down a toilet. This resolution affirms that the cruel injustice of abortion need not be forever: instead, we must defend the unborn and show love and compassion to both mother and child through meaningful assistance and support.

Sen. Cruz introduced this legislation today.  His floor speech can be found here. We are pleased to endorse these bills to designate June as Life Month.

Family Month

One member of Congress who never shies away from introducing legislation that will protect families is Eagle Forum favorite, Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL).  She has introduced a resolution to designate June as “Family Month.” In an interview with the Daily Wire, Rep. Miller said

The American family is under relentless attack from a radical leftist agenda that seeks to erase truth, redefine marriage, and confuse our children. By recognizing June as Family Month, we reject the lie of ‘Pride’ and instead honor God’s timeless and perfect design. If we truly want to restore our nation, we must stand united to protect and uphold the foundation upon which it was built — the family.

In the resolution, Rep. Miller clarifies that the traditional nuclear family gives children the best opportunity to thrive and is great for society at large, as well. She points out that the decline of marriage and family has a direct correlation with the rise in crime, drug abuse, and other social problems. Additionally, she urges Congress to completely forgo the designation of June as “Pride Month.”

Title IX Month

This June marks the 53rd anniversary of the Title IX program, which was created to ensure girls and women have equal access to education. Under the Biden administration, the Department of Education tried to pervert the intent of Title IX by redefining “sex” to include “sexual orientation /gender identity.”  They proudly declared that boys are allowed in girls’ sports and males in female private spaces. President Donald Trump’s Department of Education has reversed this definition and restored Title IX to its original purpose.

On Tuesday, the Department of Education announced it would celebrate June as “Title IX Month.” A press release states:

June will now be dedicated to commemorating women and celebrating their struggle for, and achievement of, equal educational opportunity. Throughout the month, the Department will highlight actions taken to reverse the Biden Administration’s legacy of undermining Title IX and announce additional actions to protect women in line with the true purpose of Title IX.

They also announced investigations into the University of Wyoming for allowing a man to join an on-campus sorority and Jefferson County Public Schools in Colorado for allowing boys to stay in girls’ rooms on overnight trips due to their “gender identity.”

In more good news, President Trump’s Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Tuesday that the President currently has no plans to make an official proclamation declaring June “Pride Month.” Even some woke businesses are dropping out. In February 2025, Google announced that Pride Month would no longer be highlighted by default on Google Calendar. Google said it was no longer “scalable or sustainable” to continue adding the growing number of national and international “cultural moments” to its calendars.

We want to support our elected officials when they move legislation that affirms and supports American families. You can do so in-person this September 8th-11th as we host our annual Eagle Council in Washington, D.C. This year, you will have the opportunity to meet with your state’s Representatives and Senators, collaborate with agency heads such as the Department of Education, and learn about our nation’s founding in the locations where these actions took place.
