Heartland Institute Honors the Memory of Edwin J. Feulner, Jr. (1941 – 2025)

The Heartland Institute today mourned the death yesterday of Edwin J. Feulner, Jr., a founder and long-time President of one of Heartland’s allies, the Heritage Foundation.

“Ed Feulner was a trailblazing leader in the world of public policy analysis,” said Heartland Institute President James Taylor. “He showed how truth — hard facts, honest data, and testable information — could be mined to let government, business, and other leaders make better decisions.  In this he put ideas to work to make people’s lives better. And the ideas he championed always favored freedom.”

“Ed Feulner was a champion of the idea that people who share important convictions, principles, and values should find ways to work together,” said Heartland Institute Vice President Jim Lakely.  “Under his leadership the Heritage Foundation was always a cooperative ally of the Heartland Institute and, over many decades, we have undertaken many fruitful projects together.  His leadership will be deeply missed.”

“One could always count on Ed Feulner for sound advice and a cheering word,” said the Chairman of Heartland’s Board of Directors, Joseph A. Morris. “Even more than a teacher or a colleague, he was a treasured and trusted friend.”

A detailed biography of, and tribute to, appears on the website of the Heritage Foundation, here.

The Heartland Institute joins with our friends at the Heritage Foundation and with lovers of liberty everywhere in mourning the death of Edwin J. Feulner.
