“The Hump” WWII’s Deadly Air Cargo Route

Tim McGraw wrote:

This is crazy. To lose over one aircraft a day with crew for years is nuts. One thousand seven hundred crewmen died in this operation. Six hundred aircraft, or more, were lost in the mountains and jungles. Airplanes and pilots take a long time to replace on the other side of the world. It was also crazy to fly 24/7, no matter what the weather conditions.

President Roosevelt (FDR) called Chinese General Chiang Kai-shek “Cash My Check”. Madame Chiang was the Dragon Lady. Seeing her in Congress begging for more war supplies reminds me of Netanyahu and Zelensky in Congress recently. Nothing really changes.

Wars are insane. As an aircraft mechanic, I know how much work it takes to build a plane, maintain it, and keep it airworthy. It amazes me that the planes fly as well as they do. To have people trying to shoot each other out of the sky is nuts.
